Mason Jar DIY

jars desk set

I love this little desk set! It is such a fun farmhouse look and really inexpensive to create. I got my jars from Hobby Lobby when they were on sale for 50% off.

You will need:

  • Mason Jars. Sizes of your choice.
  • Water Based Paint or Chalk Paint of your choice
  • Ribbon
  • Fabric Flowers. I found mine at Hobby Lobby in the scrapbook area
  • Hot Glue
  • Sandpaper
  • Foam paint brush

Clean your jars with rubbing alcohol, be sure to let it dry. Brush on paint with foam paint brush and let dry. It dries really quickly. You may want to do a second coat if it is really transparent. Sand the high point with your sandpaper to give it a antique look. Hot glue on whatever accessories you choose.

I also love using these for my bathroom to hold toothbrushes, makeup brushes, q-tips, cotton pads, etc.

Family Fall Activities

This year we put together a fall family bucket list. We came up with several ideas that everyone would enjoy, and everyone got to put down a few ideas of their own. It was a lot of fun.

Here is what our list looks like,

  1. Go apple picking.
  2. Go to a Corn Maze.
  3. Go to the Pumpkin Patch.
  4. Carve Pumpkins.
  5. Make Grout Burgers (Family recipe we all love.)
  6. Family Pictures.
  7. Go for a hike.
  8. Make spiced apple cider in crock pot.
  9. Make snow cocoa.
  10. Hot Cocoa Bar.

Favorite Amazon Products

I love how convenient and affordable Amazon can be. I probably get a package for there at least a few times per month.

Here is a list of my favorites along with link so you can also check them out.

These Heel Liners, they are a must in my car kit and my home. There is nothing worse than a cute pair of shoes that are constantly slipping off your heel. The price on these are great and they are super comfortable too.

This Hand Sanitize Spray. This stuff is alcohol free so it does not dry out your hands. I have them in the car, my purse, at the office. It has a great cap that snaps on tight so you don’t have to worry about slips.

These diamond pen in rose gold. I know they may be considered a little over the top but they are so beautiful and fun to write with if you are a pen freak like me.

These earsable pens and a must have in my book. I have a planner girl, I love pens that write really well, I like to have multiple colors as well. And bonus, they are erasable.

Do you love coffee? If so they these little candies are so so good. I keep them at home, the car, my purse, at the office. Yep I think I have an addiction to these as well.

These earrings are so pretty and light weight. They come in a ton of different colors and they are so pretty.

What happened to Kindness?

I consider myself to be an overall happy person. I try to be thoughtful and grateful for my many blessing. Even when things are just not going right I try to remember, someone always has it worst that I do, so I best be thankful for the blessings in my life.

There is one thing I feel really strongly about, and that is human kindness. We are all different, all of us come from different people, different places, different economic standings, you name it and we all have a long list of differences. But we are all created by God, and created to be different and have different gifts. I truly believe in my heart most people have good intentions.

I work in the service industry and I don’t want to toot my own horn but I know I am pretty good in general with people. I can relate to most everyone on some level. And I try my hardest to be kind and professional at work and in life. One thing I just don’t understand is why certain people (there is no one in particular I am thinking about) just seem like no matter what I do or possibly my co-workers do they refused to be pleased or happy. No job is ever good enough, they just can’t be pleased. And it goes beyond pleased, I don’t ask for anyone to be pleased per say, but general kindness towards other human beings I do expect. I don’t think it’s appropriate to yell, cuss, or demand in any instance. It just goes beyond common courtesy, human kindness, and respect of other people.

And can we talk about reviews for a minute. I think reviews are great, I myself look at reviews when making choices about purchases all the time. I think they are so helpful, but what I don’t understand is hatful reviews. In our community we have a few Facebook groups just aimed at customer service and the people on these groups can be vicious. I have seen children be trashed talked and utter disgusting comments made towards other people. I don’t understand what drives people to such a level of anger, life is stressful I get it. And we all have bad days sometimes bad years. But is it ok to speak to or about other people that way. Isn’t that just going to make you feel worse? I certainly think it does.

What do you think about human kindness in general, as a majority is it still alive and well or is the majority struggling?

How do I stay productive.

I am in general an pretty organized person. I love clean spaces that look organized and clutter free. I also like pretty things. I have included a few pictures of my at home work space to hopefully give you a little inspiration of your own.

In order to accomplish a clean and organized space I only have the most essential things on my desktop. I do not want several things to clutter up my desk because then my mind feels cluttered. In order for my to focus on one task and do it well I need to have a clear workspace with minimal distractions. If I have several projects sitting on my desk I really struggle to keep on task. I also like things around me that mean alot to me and pretty things that give me inspiration. I have several photos of my husband, children, and parents in my office. The ones on the wall above me with the exception of my oldest daughters senior pictures, I have taken them all. I love photography I having my pictures up inspires me.

As you can see in the photos I have a clear glass desk, I love this desk because it is so clean and clear. There really is no visual clutter and my office is in a small bedroom in our house so I did not want anything that would make the room feel smaller than it already was.

I love this gold pen holder and marble stapler, I purchased them at Target, as well as this cute work lamp. My Mom got this lamp for me a few years ago and it makes the perfect work light. I  have a lot of natural light in this room too which makes everything feel very light and airy.

I like to section my pens by color, so this pen holder works perfect for me. I also love this cute little candle. I purchased it from the Dollar Tree, it is the perfect little candle for my desk.

I love this organizer for my action file and outgoing mail. Again I like that it is on the smaller side so it doesn’t take up much visual or physical space.

I have a file cart below my desk that has one drawer for office supplies and one file drawer. I use the file drawer for mostly permanent files. Basically things I never really move out of this drawer but have easy access to when ever I need them. This file cart came from Office Max several years ago. There are several on Amazon that would work well too. For the files I use for reference and get changed yearly I use this cute little file box from Target and this accordion folder. The accordion folder is for bills that I have already paid, I file them in alphabetical order. Everything tax related for our personal finances goes in the very back, so when it is time to do my taxes I just pull everything out of the back of the folder.

I also keep my home management binders here, which is right behind my desk on this cute ladder shelf I got from Hobby Lobby. It makes accessing all of it really easy and efficient.

I also have this cube shelf that I actually got from my youngest daughter after she retired it from her room. You can get these anywhere, but my current favorite are the ones from Wal-Mart. They are super affordable and sturdy. I have Dollar Tree bins on this shelf and I have them all labeled. The key to staying organized in to keep specific things in each bin, try not to use them from multiple different things. This way it is easy to access and remember exactly what is in each bin.

I love that I have 2 empty cubes, this way I have room to grow. I don’t like things to be packed. It’s nice to know I can always add another bin if I need to store something else there.

My desk does not have any drawers but one I do feel like is essential is the keyboard tray, not only is it better ergonomically but it helps keep my space clear. I am currently using a binder for a planner and it is the best thing I have used yet. I love to try different planners, but this is by far the best one yet and the easiest to use. I can just print out my printables and use a regular hole punch to punch holes in them. Its just so easy to find things that are easy to use and it gives me a lot of options for creativity.

Content, Yes I am!

What do I need to be content?

Hello All! Happy Fall!!

So anyone who knows me knows I am a self proclaimed introvert. I love to be alone, I know that sounds kind of weird, but I am comfortable in my own skin and I like to just have quiet. And my quiet can come in many forms, reading a book, cleaning my house, taking a bubble bath, going for a walk, journaling, crafting, painting, and the list goes on. It doesn’t really matter what I am doing, I just like quiet. There are lots of things I love, shopping, pedicures, massages, handbags, shoes, makeup, and that list goes on too. But what I need, is time to recharge my batteries in a quiet setting. That is where my contentment comes from. And the strange thing is, let me preface what I am about to say by saying I am also somewhat of a people pleaser, I used to feel bad or guilty for asking or wanting time to be alone and just have some time to myself. I think as a Mom, I felt like time and quiet was a luxury I just couldn’t afford, maybe one day but not today. So I would push myself to the max, knowing I needed to reset and recharge but ignoring my need and just kept going. And what I got from that was a whole lot of resentment, resentment towards everyone who asked for my time when I was at the end of my rope. Everyone would just keep asking and asking for me to be in multiple places at one time and to run myself ragged (at least that’s what I was thinking). When in truth, I was the one who just kept pushing myself and could not set boundaries on my own limitations. I understand this whole concept a lot better than I used to but I still struggle with those boundaries. I probably to some extent always will since I love to say YES! YES! to everything. When instead I should be saying YES! to what really matters and what lines up with my priorities and goals and NO! to other things that I really don’t have the extra time for. I have stopped feeling bad for letting my loved ones know I need a little me time and I am a much happier person because I try not to push myself to my breaking point. No one and I mean NO ONE likes that girl, she is grumpy and short fused.

Where do you find your contentment? What do you NEED in order to be a happy functioning human?
